Japan Remains Vietnam's Biggest Garment And Textiles Importer

Japan remained the biggest importer of Vietnam’s garment and textiles with an import value of USD 620 million in 2001. 

The European Union imported USD 610 million of made-in-Vietnam garment and textiles, making it the second biggest importer of Vietnamese products. The EU is followed by the Republic of Korea and Singapore. 

Vietnam has earned USD 2.15 billion from garment and textile exports so far this year, a year-on-year increase of 13 percent. It plans to achieve an export turnover of USD 2.5 billion in 2002 and between USD 4 and 5 billion by 2005. 

The garment and textiles sector intends to boost exports to the U.S. in the coming period, said Mai Hoang An, Chairman of the Management Board of the Vietnam Garment and Textiles Corporation. 

An added that U.S. entrepreneurs consider Vietnam a stable potential supplier of high-quality garment and textile products. Moreover, crowded overseas Vietnamese in the U.S. prefer made-in-Vietnam goods. The U.S. market will consume USD 200 million wort h of Vietnam’s garment and textiles in 2002 and USD 1.5 billion by 2005.
